Secure RFID Tags Can Monitor and Record Data
SecureRF Corporation has its own line of secure radio frequency identification (RFID) tags with Onboard Security™ and sensors. The first, known as the LIME Tag™, is a battery-assisted passive (BAP) RFID tag with Onboard Security™ that is EPCglobal Class 1, Gen 2 compliant.
LIME Tag™ - A Secure RFID Tag and Cold Chain Management for the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain and Food Industry
The LIME Tag with temperature sensor targets the pharmaceutical, food & beverage and other industries whose products must be maintained within a set temperature range. The LIME Tag's cold chain management functions address industry issues by monitoring and securely recording the temperature history at an interval ranging from once a minute to just once a day.
Tracking temperature-sensitive, high value pharmaceuticals and biologicals from manufacture through distribution at an item-level is increasingly critical to ensuring drug safety and efficacy. For shipments to end-users without a RFID reader, the LIME Tag can be equipped with a push-button switch and LED lights that indicate if the product has been maintained within the set temperature range.
For food & beverage manufacturers, the LIME Tag can be used at a pallet, case or item level to monitor product quality, freshness and shelf life.
LIME Tag™ - Additional Sensors and Features
The LIME Tag can be equipped with different types of sensors:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Tamper indication
- Shock sensing
- pH levels - to manage the quality of blood or other biologics
- Other sensors that are small enough to fit on an battery assisted passive RFID tag.
In addition to providing sensor functions, the LIME Tag has other unique features:
- The secure LIME Tag actively provides authentication of the RFID tag and encryption of the stored data to provide Onboard Security functions unavailable on any other RFID product
- No requirement for storing passwords or private keys
- Energy-saving power managment that extends battery life
- An extended user memory
- A long read and write range.
- Operate with currently installed EPCglobal Class 1, Gen 2 UHF readers without the need for firmware upgrades; a significant implementation advantage.
Universal Standards Facilitate Wireless Implementation
SecureRF tags support a wide range of wireless standards, including EPCglobal Class 1 Generation 2 - the same UHF standards used in ISO specification 18000-6C, and ISO 18000-7, as used by the Dash7 group. These global standards provide the foundation for future RFID products used in asset tracking and identification for supply chain and related applications.
