Secure RFID Tags Actively Authenticate and Encrypt Communications

SecureRF Corporation has its own line of secure radio frequency identification (RFID) tags featuring the Algebraic Eraser™ security protocol to actively authenticate and encrypt reader-tag communications.

The first tag, known as the LIME Tag™, is a battery-assisted passive (BAP) RFID tag with Onboard Security™ that is EPCglobal Class 1, Gen 2 compliant.

A secure passive UHF RFID tag is currently under development with support of a grant from the National Science Foundation. Secure products using other wireless communication protocols are also in the works.

LIME Tag - Our RFID Solution with Onboard Security

The LIME Tag (for LIghtweight, Multistream Encryption) provides data authentication at the RFID reader, RFID tag, and data level. This prevents unauthorized reading of the private information, provides anonymity and guards consumer privacy, e.g. HIPAA.

Data protection and encryption features prevent tampering of the data and make the LIME Tags untraceable and non-cloneable. The LIME Tag uses unique session keys and a self-contained public key (asymmetric) cryptographic system.

In addition to providing Onboard Security functions, the LIME Tag has other unique features:

  • The LIME Tag with optional sensors enables temperature tracking, tamper indication, shock sensing and other functions.
  • No requirement for storing passwords or private keys
  • Energy-saving power managment that extends battery life
  • An extended user memory.
  • A long read/write range.
  • Operate with currently installed EPCglobal Class 1, Gen 2 UHF readers without the need for firmware upgrades; a significant implementation advantage.

Universal Standards Facilitate Wireless Implementation

SecureRF tags support a wide range of wireless standards, including EPCglobal Class 1 Generation 2 - the same UHF standards used in ISO specification 18000-6C, and ISO 18000-7, as used by the Dash7 Alliance.  These global standards provide the foundation for future wireless products used in asset tracking and identification for supply chain and related applications.
