Getting Personal to Prevent Banning RFID isn’t the only option

Louis Sirico from RFID Wizards wrote a good article about pending RFID legislation in California called Getting Personal to Prevent Banning RFID.  He discussed how one word is all that stands between balanced legislation and unnecessary outlawing of RFID in Senate Bill #28 and Senate Bill #29.  Read his article at http://www.rfidwizards.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=169&Itemid=1.

Unfortunately, the assumption behind these two bills is that the data stored on RFID tags can not be secured and protected.  With the release of RFID tags with security features, this assumption is no longer true.

Another option for making this balanced legislation is to prohibit the use of licenses, identification cards or devices that use unsecured RFID technology which enables personal information to be read remotely by unauthorized readers.   This change would prevent unnecessary outlawing of RFID and provide protection for personal information.
